Ørland has one of the largest protected wetlands areas in Norway. Due to its location and availability of feed, it is a natural stopover for migrating birds. Since it is an area of international significance it has become an attractive destination for birders. The municipality has four protected areas (Ramsar-convention of 1983) totaling 30 km2. Additional non-protected locations are also worth visiting. The areas are in close proximity to each other and easily available by bike or car.

Take care to walk carefully when visiting - especially during the nesting season. Keep your dogs on a leash. Follow the rules and regulations!
